Life as a Mirror
Your perception of the world is reflecting your state of being. If we feel good inside, we’ll notice the goodness available in all things. If we feel bad inside, we’ll focus on the bad in the world. So when we experience that of another, we are experiencing it in ourselves. Like when we are awed by a beautiful flower, we’re feeling its beauty inside of us.
This concept appears esoteric, because true comprehension of this phenomenon comes with empirical understanding. But once grasped, its potency not only brings growth but playfulness and wonder. Life becomes a game where we interpret what we are presented with in order to understand our deeper truths.
So, be open to the possibility that you project your internal reality onto the external. Take note of how you feel inside when you make judgments about the world around you. Explore how your outer circumstances can affect your inner temper. Like when you do something you love, notice the joy bubbling up inside of you.
We are simultaneously the observer and the observed. Our world can make us aware of how we can improve our internal state and can awaken aspects inside of us that can enrich and expand our lives. In every moment, we can utilize the information around us to know ourselves better.
We cannot fully see ourselves through our own eyes, but we can recognize ourselves through another. Like with our physical being, how else can we view it but through a mirror? In the same sense, we cannot fully perceive our nonphysical states without reflection.
Our outer world invites us to connect with our inner world and vice versa. Like through our breath: we receive oxygen and give carbon dioxide. Our inner and outer realities must be in constant contact, indentured until death. Since we cannot escape this marriage between our external and internal, let’s take notice of the ways this communion can help bring us closer to ourselves.
